Video of the Week: How NOT to Operate a Forklift Safely

In this week’s Video of the Week, we take a look at some of the biggest forklift failures from the past several years.

While many of the operators in these videos find their shenanigans hilarious, they are less funny when you consider the millions of dollars of damage to property, the lost productivity, and the potential for injury that occurs in nearly every one of these incidents.

Given the fact that most of these videos were captured on surveillance cameras, it’s a good bet that nearly all of these operators were either fired or severely disciplined for their carelessness.

Please note that in some of these videos, there is language that some viewers may find offensive — which is not surprising when you consider that many of these business owners are witnessing the loss of thousands of dollars of products.

In other words, viewer discretion is advised.

Bonus Video

As an added bonus, here’s a link to a second forklift-related video that has been making the rounds this week. It features a forklift operator in the UK loading his lift truck onto the back of a flatbed using the hydraulics and front-wheel drive of the truck itself.

While this may be an impressive feat, the strain such an act puts on the mast of the forklift — it has to support the entire weight of the vehicle, including the counterweight — this type of trick probably would cause considerable damage to the vehicle over time.
